What’s In The Box
Here’s what you get when you unbox this Quntis monitor light bar:
- Light bar
- Controller
- Right Angle USB-C cable
- Manual
- 2x AAA Batteries
- Hex Key
The AAA batteries are for the wireless backlit controller and the hex key is to lock either of the hinges on the light bar monitor mount.
Monitor Light Setup
Getting started with this monitor light bar is quick and easy. There are only two real steps here.
First, you have to install the provided AAA batteries into the wireless controller. Then you have to place the light bar on your monitor and just plug it in. Done!
The magnetic battery door is the same back door seen on the Quntis ScreenLinear Pro+.
Design Features & Build Quality
The design of this monitor light bar is different in two main ways. First, it has features that support a webcam, and second, the double rear hinge design hints at the wide range of monitor compatibility.
Regarding webcam compatibility, it has two main features that help dramatically. A front rubber grip to keep your webcam in place, and a right-angled USB cable so your webcam doesn’t need to sit on top of your monitor light power cable.
Unfortunately, it looks like the rubber grip is right next to the light sensor for auto-dimming, so placing your webcam here might affect this lighting mode.
Using a right-angle USB cable was one of the solutions in our article on using webcams with monitor light bars. It’s nice to see that companies like Quntis are implementing changes like this right off the bat! It’s an easy way to make monitor lights webcam-friendly!
Other companies like BenQ require using a secondary accessory that you have to purchase (we cover this in our BenQ Halo Review). Fortunately, Quntis integrated these useful features into the design, which is a huge plus.
The light bar’s LEDs are covered with an opaque cover which helps diffuse the light nicely. I don’t like when you can see the individual LEDs in a monitor light bar, it looks unfinished. That’s not the case here!
One feature that surprised me with this light bar is that the lighting angle is actually fixed. This is a little unfortunate as you can’t fine-tune the beam spread on your desk.
The fixed-location beam location is not bad, but some adjustability would have been nice.
Monitor Compatibility
One of my favorite things about Quntis is that they want their monitor light bars to work on as many monitors as possible. And it shows!
This monitor light bar has a long weighted triple-section mount which gives it a ton of flexibility. It’s compatible with really thick monitors, really thin monitors, curved monitors down to 1000R, etc.
As far as I know, no other monitor light bar on the market has addressed universal compatibility like Quntis has.
The little component that helps make this light bar compatible with the super curved monitors is this little adjustable spacer seen right in front of my monitor, under the light bar.
It has two different positions based on how far out you want the light bar. I prefer having my light bar spaced out a bit just so I can have a more even beam spread on my desk. That’s just personal preference though.
Lighting Modes
As with most light bars from Quntis, there is an auto-dimming feature so you don’t have to worry about setting the correct brightness. The light bar’s top sensor will detect the ambient light in the room and adjust the brightness level as needed.
Unlike some other monitor light bars, Quntis lights let you set the desired color temperature in auto mode. You get a little blue LED indicator in front of the light bar which tells you auto dimming is active.
Quntis also has a 2-hour rest reminder capability. When you activate this, the light will turn off after two hours, reminding you to take a break.
(From the image above you can see one downside of the right-angle USB-C cable, it’s visible from certain angles. This is the price you pay for webcam compatibility.)
Wireless Controller
Before this monitor light bar, the BenQ Halo was the only one with a backlit wireless controller. Quntis has now matched them!
The wireless controller has a few capacitive controls:
- Brightness control
- Color temperature control
- Auto-dimming toggle
- Power control
- Adjustment slider
The controller is pretty simple and sleek with a glossy top surface. The arc along the top of the controller is a large slide where you can glide your finger across to adjust the brightness or the color temperature.
My favorite feature of this controller by far is that the power button stays backlit all the time! This means you can actually see the power button in the dark! Thank you, Quntis.
The controller does need to ‘wake’ to become very responsive. I found myself having to tap a control twice after not using the remote for a while.
This is likely a battery-saving feature. I’d much rather tap a control twice rather than constantly run out of battery juice, so no complaints here.
Verdict
If you want a monitor light bar that has nearly universal compatibility and also can be used with a webcam natively, it’s hard to beat this Quntis light bar. The new backlit wireless controller is just icing on the cake, especially with its always-on power button.
